Wylfryd Smythe You can listen to this as a pleasant wash of background music while you work; as beautiful and as meaningless as sunlight on a painted wall. Or you can focus on it and realise that actually there's a lot going on in the texture and detail of the sound. Steve Roach has made a lot of longform ambient, all of them well worth listening to, but this is one of the very best. A gem from a gem.

Biff Johnson and Shelley Andrews This is the journey to the center of gray. It is what it is and always will have been. Words waste time when this creation should be the main thing in our minds. The ability of Steve's music to transport us to realms of truth and beauty is really the crux of what this is all about. The zone is reached in this incredible sound world. Do not let this go by Get it !.

Ews Nsj there i sat,... on the plain, watching the flashes within draco in the heavens. i felt eyes travelling down along the cord of my spirit and landing cold upon the soul at the far end. i lowered my gaze. i slowly looked one way then the other,...and then side-to-side a few more times — uncertain yet processing. overthere was the mid-night and overthere was the mid-day. but strangely it was neither one or the other here on the plain; they never toil in this ‘place’. it was only my person and long.. persistent.. pondering. but exactly then i concentrated my gaze on the other side of the fleshy border of my body. here the light and shade tumbled endlessly.. unraveling and colliding with indescribable force...and heavenly firey bodies materialised there as i watched — i gazed straight into them ~ inspired by this deeply significant meditative piece. headphones recommended for an immersive experience Favorite track: Fade To Gray.

about

A dark ambient magma flow of ultra deep harmonic immersion. This is the next chapter in the evolution of Steve's rapturous long-form zone-worlds. Moving beyond the drone form, Fade To Gray is a consciousness-activating 74 minute space of slowly churning, shifting harmonic alchemy. Subterranean sonics emerge rich with visual correlations; this could be occurring deep below the earth’s surface, monitored and amplified into a listening space above ground. Steve approached Fade To Gray as if working on a large scale canvas or as a sculptor, shaping an etheric material into a sonic form through the tactile process offered by his analog-hardware based studio. Beyond the immersive environment experience it also functions on several levels: At low volume and infinite playback, Fade To Gray is highly effective for hypnogogic travel and sleep. At a higher volume, on a sound system that supports the emotional impact of full resolution playback, the sensation of a surreal, symphonic movement magnified and expressing texture, mood, and emotion at a cellular level.
